Browser and Platform Support

The visualization of Antcas Control supports display in almost all modern web browsers and operating systems. A complete table is no longer maintained as modern browsers today largely implement standards. Nevertheless, there are important differences in feature support that should be considered.

Recommended Browsers

For optimal use of the visualization (including WebRTC telephony, push functionality and PWA features), the following minimum requirements apply:

  • Google Chrome – Version 80 or higher is recommended.
  • Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based)
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Safari (macOS & iOS)
  • Opera / Brave / Vivaldi (Chromium-based)

These browsers generally offer modern standards, good performance and comprehensive support for Progressive Web App functions.

Not Recommended:

  • Internet Explorer (no modern standard support)
  • Samsung Internet (Android)
  • Very old browser versions that do not support Service Worker, WebRTC or modern JavaScript features.

Progressive Web Apps (PWA)

Advantages & Devices

The visualization can be installed and used as a Progressive Web App (PWA). PWAs offer:

  • Offline capability via Service Worker
  • Home screen installation
  • Faster load times
  • App-like user experience

PWAs are supported by most modern browsers and platforms, including:

  • Chrome / Edge / Opera / Brave / Vivaldi (Desktop + Android)
  • Firefox (Desktop and Android) – with some restrictions on install prompts

PWAs can also work on tablets, laptops, and many newer smart devices as long as a modern browser with PWA functionality is used.

Note for iOS: On iOS (iPhone & iPad), PWAs can be installed but always only via the manual method Share ▸ Add to Home Screen — there is no automatic install prompt as on Android or desktop browsers.

Push Notifications

Most browsers and PWAs can support push messages, but this is platform-dependent:

  • Android / Desktop (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, Brave): Push notifications generally work reliably.
  • macOS Safari (from Safari 16 / macOS Ventura+): Push support available.
  • iOS & iPadOS: Push notifications are only possible in installed PWAs and from iOS 16.4+ — they must be manually installed; additionally, there are restrictions and bugs in practice, so push messages under iOS do not always work reliably (especially in the background) and are not fully supported in all regions or versions.

Important: iOS does not support web push messages in the browser itself — push functionality only occurs after installation as a PWA and is partially restricted or does not work.

WebRTC Support

For functions like Telephony, browser-side support for WebRTC is required:

  • Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, Brave, Vivaldi: Fully support WebRTC, including audio and video.
  • Safari (macOS): Supports WebRTC (from Safari 11+).
  • iOS Browsers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox): All use WebKit and thus generally offer WebRTC support – however, the support may vary depending on the iOS version and be restricted in older versions. In some iOS versions, WebRTC features such as telephony may not work fully.

Note: The WebRTC function (e.g., web telephony) cannot always run equally reliably on iOS, as all browsers under iOS are based on WebKit and some APIs are implemented with limitations.

Recommendations and Notes for Users

  • Always use modern browsers: This reduces the risk of security issues and incompatibilities.
  • Resolution: At least 340×340 pixels to correctly display UI elements.
  • Actively use PWA installation: For best user experience and push functionality, especially on Android.
  • Know iOS restrictions: Installation and push are possible but restricted and require manual steps.
